The Building of Independence Hall was the First Step in Constructing a New Nation and a Hallmark Symbolizing the Birth of our Collective Concept of Individual Freedom.

In the 1700's, with the building of Independence Hall the two men, whose idea it was to create a place for the Continental Congress to meet, could not have known the impact the building would have on history.

Edmond Woolley and Andrew Hamilton designed Independence Hall and construction began in Pennsylvania in 1732. Twenty one years later in 1753 the building was complete.

Little did the individuals who were working on the completion of the building know, that the structure that they were building would become symbolic for the freedoms Americans believe they have today.

It was in these walls that the Declaration of Independence was conceived. The Congressmen met in this building and chose the five men of the time that would write the Declaration of Independence.

When Thomas Jefferson completed the draft, it was there that it was brought for debate and revisions, prior to its reading to a future nation. This building holds in it the memories of men struggling to change the oppressive nature of a government, where the rights of men were not taken into account with the inception of laws.

The building of Independence Hall was unknown at the time but it would become the symbol of a democratic nation, whose government was comprised of the people.

It was in the walls of Independence Hall that the Continental Congress debated the Constitution and the laws of the new land. The Constitution was conceived, debated and drafted in Independence Hall in 1786 when commissioners from five states convened to make the laws of the United States.

The Constitution was written in Independence Hall and forwarded to each of the 13 states for approval. It was with the signing of this document that the individual rights of the people of America were born. The walls of Independence Hall saw every history making moment in the creation of the nation that you now call the United States of America.

It was the place where you obtained your rights as American citizens. If Woolley and Hamilton could see the state of the nation that they helped create, would they be proud of what is happening today?

INDEPENDENCE IN 2009

The government that is in power today has little to do with the ideals that were in place during the building of Independence Hall. In fact, the building that is the symbol for freedom is now incased in cages to keep away public interaction. Freedom imprisoned.
